Q&A with Zoe
Favorite type of trip to lead?
I like weekend hiking/camping trips because you get to know the group better.

What do you like about being a leader?
You get to meet many different people. It’s fun to help them learn to appreciate the outdoors
What the hardest part about being a leader?
For bigger weekend trips there is quite a lot of behind-the scenes-planning: the hikes, the food and the lodging. But it always seems to come together in the end and it’s the joys, not the challenges, that stand out in my mind.

What do you love about hiking and camping?
I love being out in nature turning off my cell phone and disconnecting with social media and the usual worries that come with living in the city. After a long day’s hike meals seem even more delicious, and then gathering around the campfire and finally falling asleep in my tent all exhausted is such a satisfying experience.
What’s one of your favorite camping meals?
I enjoy making burrito/tacos; it’s fairly easy and you can easily accommodate various diets and preferences. Guacamole and salsa are always a hit!

What’s your favorite memory on a trip?
The Notch winter hiking trip which I’ve helped co-lead and organize. People really connected over the weekend and I remember with fondness working on a puzzle together. I also remember a few years back a very challenging hike up Mt Osceola: it was both scary and fun making our way up and down the mountain, mostly butt-sliding on the way down.
