Attend a 20s & 30s Steering Committee Meeting

The 20s & 30s Steering Committee meets once a month to plan ongoing programs and larger events, discuss ways to encourage new membership and leadership in the Boston community, and update club policies in accordance with larger AMC guidelines.  All meetings are open to the public, whether you would like to apply for (or create) a position or just attend as a guest to learn more about our plans for the future.  Meetings are currently held virtually via Zoom.

Leader Listing Coordination and Trip Approvals are handled by the Trip Coordinator. Please contact the Trip Coordinator with any questions related to listing your trip.

The core positions of the are:

  • Chair – The Chair keeps the committee organized and active, interfaces with the chapter, interfaces with 20s & 30s groups in other chapters, and conducts special projects.
  • Vice Chair – The Vice Chair interfaces with 20s & 30s groups in other chapters, conducts special projects and backfills the Chair as necessary.
  • Treasurer – The Treasurer does the financial accounting for the committee, and makes budget recommendations.
  • Secretary – The Secretary coordinates committee meetings, records minutes and keeps committee records.

Meet the Committee Members

Kate is a leader with AMC Boston 20s & 30s and Hiking Backpacking committees. Kate leads hikes, local walks, paddles, volunteer events, and book club socials with AMC. Kate is an ecologist by training and is happy to talk about flora and fauna on her trips!

August is a leader with the Boston Chapter of the AMC. Hailing from Michigan, August has enjoyed camping, climbing and playing sports all his life. When he's not hiking or backpacking in New England, you will likely find him on a sailboat in the summer, and skiing or playing hockey in the winter.

Michael Hanley is the current Chair of the 20's & 30's Committee and also serves are a Local Leader. In addition to hiking year-round he enjoys bike touring, open water swimming, trail running, and baking.

Keith is a 3-season leader who enjoys hosting local hikes in the Boston area as well as backcountry trips in New Hampshire and beyond. Occasionally, he'll embark on intense solo hikes.

Shannon is a 3-season leader with Young Members. She's happy to lead hikes, backpacks, and nordic ski trips in the whites or locally. She'll also recite a poem if you request it.

Justin can be found hiking year round in New England. He is currently working on his second round of NH's 4,000 footers, the 52 With-A-View list and is section hiking Vermont's Long Trail. Other interests include trail maintenance, bicycling, running and golfing.

Chao is a local leader with the 20s and 30s committee. He really enjoys taking people on local hikes. He also enjoys software projects related to hiking so do reach out to him if you are interested in working together.

Jeff is an avid hiker and outdoor enthusiast with the AMC. He enjoys backpacking throughout New England and the local hikes around Boston. In addition, when the weather is nice, he also enjoys kayaking and sailing on the Charles River.

    Sean works as an engineering project manager to support his outdoor pursuits. From hiking to skiing, scuba to kayaking, Sean can be found adventuring year round. He's known for taking too many photos, but makes up for it with delicious chocolate chip summit cookies.

        Anne Lise enjoys hiking, snowshoeing, and kayaking as much as she loves finance & budgets. Also her favorites: long drives to New Hampshire & eating GORP outside of hikes.

                    Michele was the creator of the Young Members Spontaneous Outings and Socials (SOS) google group! She has led over 200 trips for AMC's Young Members, Hiking and Backpacking, and August Camp. Michele enjoys connecting people with nature and is one of the lucky few who have made her avocation her vocation.
